What Now?
One of the first steps, and a very important one, that is often overlooked or completed improperly is the drying process. In the case of heavy water loss, dehumidifiers and turbo driers should be brought into the building to aid in the removal of the water and/ or water vapour. This equipment must be allowed to remain long enough to properly dry out the structure of the building. Once the property has been thoroughly checked with moisture detection equipment and brought to a dry standard, the restoration process may begin.
When restoring heavy water damage it is important to decontaminate all surface areas that may activate microbial growth. Microbial growth can begin within 48 hours of the initial loss and may pose a health risk, especially to children, the elderly and anyone who suffers from lung complications. If the damage was caused by contaminated water, as in a sewer backup, the risks rise dramatically.
Using moisture-detection equipment Leda’s professionals are able to locate trapped moisture that would not otherwise be visible. All surfaces can then be properly assessed, and if necessary treated with antimicrobials or mildewcide. With the proper equipment and techniques health problems and odors can be avoided.
